“3 Graces Jesus Gave Part 2”
John 14:27; 15:9-10; 15:11

“Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.” Last week we spoke of peace. This week we will address abiding in the love of Christ. First, Jesus’ love is unconditional. The love of the Father to Jesus is unconditional and His love for us is unconditional. But directly after that, He gives a command to His Apostles, “abide in My love.” The word translated “abide” is “μείνατε” (meinate), which means to remain, abide, stay, or wait. It is also found in Matt 10:11; 26:38, Mark 14:34, and earlier in this teaching about the Vine and the branches, John 15:4. The force of the word shows us it is not something that is done just once and then you are good for all of eternity. No, it is something that you must actively seek. You must actively seek to stay in the love of Christ. Verse 10 tells us that while His love for us is unconditional, our love for Him is absolutely conditional. The condition? Keeping His commandments. If we are not keeping Jesus’ commands, then we are not abiding in His love, therefore we are not in a covenant relationship with him. If we love Jesus, then it will manifest through out behavior in our daily life. For more information on this read, John 14:15-24,  15:12-14, and 2 John 9-10. If we say that we love Jesus, and yet do not do what the Bible commands us, then we are liars (1 John 1:5-10). I implore you family. Abide in this grace; the love of Christ. I love you all!

In His service,
Steven Hugley
