Acknowledging Jesus as Lord

Matthew 7:20-24

As we talked last Sunday, “Calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 2:21) involves action. The scripture reading gives a great example of this concept. Here the one’s who acknowledge Jesus as “Lord, Lord” were the same ones who were told in v. 23 ‘And then will I profess unto them, “I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity”’ (ASV). These people were said to have prophesied in the name of Jesus and even cast out demons, but there was something they still lacked. V. 24 tells us what they lacked. Before telling the parable of the men who built his house upon the rock and sand he said “Everyone therefore that hearth these words of mine, and doth them, seal be likened unto a wise man.” Also in v. 21 we read “but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Both verses emphasis action! What is your action? This week I challenge you to take action and do the will of the father. Do that by being holy, for He is holy (1 Peter 1:15) and making a concerted effort to lead others to holiness (1 Cor. 11:1). I love you all!
