Action Verbs

“Action Verbs”
Matt. 7:7

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (Matt. 7:7-8). Many in today’s religious world would lose their minds over the phrase, “Christianity is a doing religion.” We are not saying that our human works save, us. We are not “working our way to heaven.” But in Jesus’ first public sermon, He makes it very clear that action on the christian’s part is required. He uses three action verbs here to describe what we are to do: ask, seek, and knock. When we do those, we will indeed get what we receive, find the Lord Jesus, and the door will be opened to the believer. Unfortunately in today’s culture of fideistic faith, people expect Jesus to show up on their doorstep, gifts in hand, begging for them to receive Him. It doesn’t work that way. It takes effort. We have to be diligent to go out and seek and save a lost world. Furthermore, people must be diligent to seek God in all things. I love you all!
