Are You Being Rude?

Are you one of those people who just questions everything? When someone makes a claim do you pull out your phone to fact check them? Have you ever fact checked someone to find out that you were the one wrong? In everyday life, we fact check people, so why is it rude to do it to a religious teacher? During the presidential debates they will run real time fact checkers, and that seems normal. Oddly enough, questioning what someone teaches about the Bible is considered taboo or disrespectful. If you question what people say about the bible, you are in good company. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15). “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). The people of Berea are spoken positively about because they checked what Paul had to say against the scriptures, “Now these were more noble minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11). The truth is, “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body” (2 Cor. 5:10). If your defense to God is, “But my preacher/pastor said…” I’m afraid your defense won’t hold up. We will all be judged according to God’s word (John 12:48). Don’t put your soul in someone else’s hand. Know what the Bible says and checking a man’s word against God’s word is never rude. I love you all!
