Being Spiritually Clothed

“Being Spiritually Clothed”
2 Cor. 5:1-5

Paul presents a fascinating picture of what it means to grow older. He describes our physical self as an “earthly tent” that is being “torn down.” In contrast, he says we have “a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens” (2 Cor. 5:1). The house of God is described as the church (1 Tim. 3:15), yet as we “groan,” we long to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven—this seems to imply the spiritual body we will inherit in eternity (1 Cor. 15:44). Paul further explains that once we put on this heavenly dwelling, “we will not be found naked.” Those who do not have a spiritual body, then, are naked, exposed by the Word if they are not clothed in Christ. “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do” (Heb. 4:13). To the Corinthians, Paul writes as if they are already clothed. How? He explains this in Galatians 3:27: “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” For those who haven’t been baptized, they remain spiritually naked. But even for Christians, staying spiritually clothed means walking in the light. John says, “if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). Let us stay spiritually clothed as we await the body that no longer groans.

I love you all!
