Correct Doctrine

“Correct Doctrine”
2 John 9
One popular sentiment that is expressed in today’s religious climate, is the concept of, “What you do or believe, really isn’t that important. All that is important is if you love Jesus and your neighbor.” It is true that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord and the second greatest is to love your neighbor as yourself (Matt. 22:37-39). But contrary to popular opinion, that does not give you a license to do or practice whatever you wish and say, “It’s ok because I love the Lord.” Jesus also said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” (John 14:15) It is impossible to separate ones actions from ones beliefs. Jesus says “So then, you will know them by their fruits.” (Matt. 7:20) So is practicing correct doctrine and living in a Christian manner really that important? YES! It is vital! Doing the will of the father is necessary in order to inherit the Kingdom (Matt. 7:21ff). Furthermore, if you do not practice correct doctrine, you do not have Jesus. I know many will scoff at that statement, but consider the words of John “Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.” (2 John 9) I love Matt. 22:37-40 not because it gives me a license to do whatever I want to do, rather it encourages me to make sure I’m living in a way that is pleasing to God and that those around may see Him through my life (Matt. 5:13-16). I love you all!
