Do They Know You Are a Christian?

“Do They Know You Are a Christian?”
Acts 8:4

Do the people around you know you are a Christian? I was reminded here recently when I was re-reading “Muscle and a Shovel” that one of the characteristics that attracted Mike to Randel was, “He was a different kind of Christian.” He meant that Mike actually did what the Bible says. So again, I ask. Do the people around you know you are a Christian? In today’s world, people have bought into the false doctrine that “As long as you believe in God, you are a Christian.” James 1:19, “You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.” By that standard, many denominations would have demons saved. We know that is not the case. I’m once again reminded of the great persecution that occurred after Stephen was stoned and how the christians, “who had been scattered went about preaching the word” (Acts 8:4). Combine that knowledge with the great commission and we learn that wherever you go, you are to teach the gospel. Would people be surprised to find out where you worship? Would they be surprised that you go every time the doors are opened? Even worse, if you told them you only go on Sunday morning, would they think, “That sounds about right.” Jesus told the disciples, “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21).  The Lord originally sent out his Apostles on a limited commission (Matt. 10:1ff), then He then sent the 70 to every city (Luke 10:1ff), and then expanded it to the entire world (Mark 16:15-16). If the people around you don’t know you are a New Testament Christian, then how will the entire world? Remember what Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount, “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they will see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 5:16). I love you all!
