“Doing All the Lord Commanded”
Gen. 6:22

Why was Noah saved? How was Noah saved? “By faith Noah, being warned by God about the things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household” (Heb. 11:7, NASB). “Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did” (Gen. 6:22). The same pattern applies to Noah that applied to all of those in the Old Testament and even us today. By faith, they did. Biblical faith requires doing the Lord’s commands. When God warned Noah he was going to flood the earth, Noah didn’t respond, “Lord I believe you, and that belief is what saves me.” Because He believed the Lord, He obeyed His commands. Listen to the words of the Savior, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our abode with him” (John 14:23). In the Bible, saving belief is always accompanied by obedience (John 3:36; Mark 16:16; Acts 19:2-3). If we love the Lord and want to be saved, we must obey His word. Just as Noah did, we must obey all of His word. What all did the Lord require? Hearing and doing God’s word (Luke 11:28), believe that Jesus is the Christ and God incarnate (John 8:24), repent and turn away from the sin in one’s life (Luke 13:3-5), confess that Jesus is the Son of God (Matt. 10:32-33), be baptized in order to receive the remission of sins (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 3:21), and continue to live faithfully (John 8:31-32). We can’t stop short or just pick and choose what we like from God’s word. Just as Noah had to build a boat to the exact specifications of God’s word in order to be saved from the sin sick world by the washing water, we must obey all that the Lord requires of us to be saved from the sin sick world by the washing of water (1 Peter 3:21; Acts 22:16). I love you all!

In His service,
Steven Hugley
