Don't Miss an Opportunity

Acts 17:22-31
This is by far my favorite time of the year. What I love the most about this time of year is that people just seem happier altogether. What I like second most is that people tend to be more willing to talk, even about those subjects no one is supposed to mention, “religion and politics.” As a Christian, not talking about my religion is not an option. Jesus in His great commission says we are supposed to teach all the nations (Matt. 28:18-20). There are certain times in someone’s life they tend to be more open to talking or change. The birth of a child, marriage, certain holidays, and a plethora of other times. Take advantage of those major events and days. Paul, in his sermon on Mars Hill in Acts 17, he came across men who were used to spending their time by listening to something new (Acts 17:21). He even said that they were “very religious in all respects.” (17:22) He could have thought to himself, “You know, we are different religions and I don’t want to offend them, so I’m just going to stay quite.” But he didn’t, he told them there was one true God and proclaimed Him to them. In Acts 16, Philip was told by an angel of the lord to go south to a road that descended from Jerusalem to Gaza. When he did, he came across an Ethiopian eunuch reading from Isaiah. The Spirit told him to go up to the chariot and Philip ran! He didn’t walk, talk his time, or think up a way to strike a conversation. He RAN up to the chariot because he was eager to teach him about Jesus (Acts 8:35). We need to have the same eagerness about the same teachings today! You can look through the scriptures over and over and see so many different opportunities the 1st century Christians took to teach (Acts 9:10-17; 10:34-48; 11:11-15; 11:25-34; and MANY more). Do not miss an opportunity to share the truth of God’s word with someone. I love you all!

In His service,
Steven Hugley
