“Foolishness”
1 Cor. 1:18

“For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Cor. 1:18). “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Rom. 1:16). The more I see religious ignorance in the world, the more I see the importance of those two verses above. I’ve seen people refer to Father God as “wizard in the sky,” “cloud zombie,” “old man who grants wishes,” etc. Whenever you see that nonsense remember 1 Cor. 1:18. They are the people who are perishing and it is foolishness to them. At some point, we have to remember the words of our Savior, when He was giving the apostles the limited commission “Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet. Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city” (Matt. 10:14-15). Also in the sermon on the mount “Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces” (Matt. 7:6). The people who are not willing to consider an Almighty Being are not being intellectually honest and they are simply trying to get a rise out of you. They don’t even want to consider that they have to obey anyone but their own personal appetites. They are similar to the culture in Corinth and Rome that Paul spoke about saying “For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man” (Rom. 1:21-23). Or as the old saying goes, “You can’t teach someone who doesn’t want to be taught.” I love you all!

In His service,
Steven Hugley
