God Warned You and You Did it Anyway

“God Warned You and You Did it Anyway”
1 Sam. 8

“For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” (Rom. 15:4). There are so many parallels to parenthood and our relationship with Father God. Often parents will warn a child telling them the consequences for their actions, before they even experience the pain. This can be seen clearly when Israel demands a king. In 1 Sam. 8, the people of Israel demand of God to have a king after Samuel’s judgeship. The Father comforts Samuel by saying, “Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them” (1 Sam. 8:7). God goes on to tell Israel what the consequences of their actions were going to be. He tells them their sons will be taken and die before chariots, he will put them into forced labor for his war efforts, he will take their daughters, the best of the fields and vineyards, and much more (1 Sam. 8:11-18). They still longed for a king. The Lord deals with us the same. He tells us if we choose sin, it means spiritual death, however if we choose Jesus and His commands it leads to life (Rom. 6:23; Heb. 5:9). We have been warned. I love you all!
