“How Are You Tempted?”
1 John 2:15-17

We are all tempted in some way or another. I am glad to know that there is no temptation that can take over my free will and cause me to sin (1 Cor. 10:13). Also, I know every way in which you and I are tempted. “Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world” (1 John 2:15-16). Every sin that exists today, falls into one of those three categories. Consider how Eve was tempted. When the woman saw that the tree was good for food [lust of the flesh], and that it was a delight to the eyes [lust of the eyes], and that the tree was desirable to make one wise [boastful pride of life], she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate (Gen. 3:6). Consider how Jesus was tempted. “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread” [lust of the flesh] (Matt. 4:3). “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me” [lust of the eyes] (Matt. 4:8-9). “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written ‘He will command His Angels concerning You’ [boastful pride of life] (Matt. 4:5-6). We are all tempted the same way that Eve and Jesus were both tempted. So, what are we supposed to do? Consider Paul’s advice, “But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil” (1 Thess. 5:21-22). I love you all!
