“How to Cure a Sick Heart”
Heb. 4:12

We’ve talked about the heart the past couple of weeks and I want to stay with that theme. We talked about protecting our heart through pure speech. Our words do indeed reveal the condition of our heart (Matt. 15:18-20). We talked about the necessity of a pure heart. But it’s so hard to understand how one can have a pure heart if the heart is deceitful. “The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; Who can understand it?” I would encourage you to go read the entire chapter of Jeremiah 17, because we learn in the very next verse that only the Lord can. What can you do about a sick heart, be it your’s or someone else’s. Nothing. But the Lord can. The answer comes back to knowing and doing what the scriptures tell us to do. “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do” (Heb. 4:12-13). Yes the Lord does know our hearts, the intentions of our hearts, and His word is the only thing that can pierce and fix a deceitful heart. But as James has told us, it’s not just merely hearing the word. “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves… But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.” (James 1:23&25). Help your’s and other’s heart. Share the word of God. I love you all!

In His service,
Steven Hugley
