How Will You be Remembered?

1 John 2:15-17

Sunday night we looked at the results of loving this present world. We talked about the consequences and what we should strive forward. As I was studying for the sermon my mind was constantly went back to Demas. We don’t know very much about Demas, but we can still learn much from when he is mentioned in scripture. In Col. 4:10-14 we see Paul writing greetings to and from fellow brethren. Here, Demas is said to send greetings. He must have been known by the brethren due to his work. Philemon 23-24 tells us that he was a co-worker of Paul. The literal meaning to work shared between the two. Then we find Paul at the end of 2 Tim. 4 having only Luke with him (2 Tim. 4:11). He was obviously in need because he asked for them to come to him quickly, because Demas had deserted him. Demas went from knowing brethren and being a coworker to an Apostle of Jesus to deserting the work because he “loved this present world.” Loving the present world can have grave consequences. The world is passing away and with it all of its lust and enticements. The only way to gain eternality is to do the will of God (1 John 2:17). So, I ask you. How will you be remembered? The last thing that was written about Demas was he loved the world. If we obey we will no be cast out, but we will enter in as a good and faithful servant (Matt. 25:21-32).  I love you all!
