“New Take On an Old Rule”
Luke 6:31-33


We are quite familiar with “the golden rule,” recorded in multiple places: “Treat others the same way you want them to treat you” (Luke 6:31). Recently, I heard a related challenge worth sharing: “Treat everyone as if they are Jesus in disguise.” Unfortunately, I don’t know the origin of the quote, but it has taken on a new level of meaning for me.


Most of us would likely treat Jesus better than we treat ourselves. We would show Him the greatest hospitality, listen intently to His every word, help Him with any task, and treat those who disagree with us in a manner consistent with soul-winning. This idea immediately reminded me of what the writer of Hebrews recorded: “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it” (Heb. 13:2).


Imagine how your life would change if you applied this principle. How would your marriage improve if you treated your spouse as if they were Jesus in disguise? How would your relationships with other family members strengthen? How much more likely would you be to invite a friend or stranger to worship? How much joy would fill your day if your coworkers were Jesus in disguise? How would your leisure time be affected if those you spent it with were Jesus in disguise? How much more would we put down our phones and connect with those around us?


This premise has deeply affected me over the past few days, and I believe it would instantly improve everyone's life if they treated everyone as if they were Jesus in disguise. I love you all!
