Steven’s Scribbles
“Outdoing one another”
Rom. 12:10-13

I would like to start off by saying I will not be putting this scribble on the internet because it is directly to you, my beloved church family. “Be devoted to one another in brother love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving in Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality” (Rom. 12:10-13). The ESV translates “give preference” to “outdo one another.” The more time I spend with you all, the more I understand that phrase. The roll of a church family is to give preference and encourage one another. “Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near” (Heb. 10:24-25). We need to continue in our encouragement, admonishment, and love for one another. “Beloved, if God so love us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us (1 John 4:11-12) “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34-35). We know that love involves care, sacrifice, altruism, selflessness, and a host of other actions. I end every scribble the same way, I love you all, I pray I show it the way y’all have to us.

In His service,
Steven Hugley
