Passing the Buck

When people are confronted with sin, specifically their sin, one of the first things that individuals try to do is put the blame on someone else. People try to distract others, and therefore themselves, of the sin by looking for sins in other individuals. Not only do we try to distract with other peoples sin, we often blame someone else for the sins we have committed. This started in the very beginning of mankind. After Eve had eaten the fruit God had commanded them to not eat (vs. 6) it says she gave to her husband who was with her and he ate. First, if her spiritual leader was there, why didn’t he stop her? Second, whenever Adam was confronted (notice that Adam was the one who gave an account for his family and not Eve) in verse 11 his immediate response to God in verse 12 was “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.” He tried to pass the buck not only onto his wife but onto God! Let us not be a people who will not confront our own sin. When our brethren sin against us, we are to forgive them (Matt. 18:21-22) but we also have the same obligation to call other christian's out on their sin (Matt. 18:15-20) in love (Eph. 4:15) and help them save their souls from certain death (James 5:19-20). If a brother or sister in Christ comes to you about a sin they sin and are concerned with, don’t be like Adam and pass the buck. If the sin is true, own up to it, repent, of it and say a prayer so that you may be healed (James 5:16). I love you all!
