Playing It Safe

“Playing It Safe”
Matt. 25:14-30

If you are a golfer, there are times to “lay up” a shot. In baseball, sometimes it is best to lay down the bunt and play small ball. In your financial life, sometimes the best thing to do is just put that extra income into your savings account for a “rainy day.” These are examples of what we call “playing it safe.” In christianity, there is no “playing it safe.” The more I study Scripture, the more I see the Lord tellings us we must go “all in” for Him. In Rev. 3:14ff, the church at Laodicea had played it safe too much. Their unwillingness to go “all in” for the Lord created a “lukewarm” environment and Jesus said that because of their lukewarmness he would spit them out. In the parable of the talents, Matt. 25:14-30, there were three stewards. Two of them used what their master had given them to gain more. The third, conversely, “played it safe.” He went and hid the money in the ground. He neither gained, nor lost his masters investment. Because of this, the third man heard “Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matt. 25:30). In christianity, we can not wait until tomorrow. Procrastination is not allowed. “Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away” (James 4:14). That person you’ve been thinking about inviting to worship, stop what you are doing and invite them now. That person you’ve wanted to share the gospel with, stop what you are doing and share it now. That family member you wish you would return to the Lord, stop what you are doing and set up a bible study now. There is literally no better time than the present. I love you all!

In His service,
