Matt. 7:24-27

One of the most important “VBS songs” in my opinion is “The wise man built his house upon the Rock.” It comes from the conclusion of Jesus’ sermon on the mount. Notice how one is considered to be wise or foolish. “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man” (Matt. 7:24). “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man” (Matt. 7:26). Whether we act as foolish or wise men is predicated on our ability to “act on” what Jesus has commanded us. Knowing God’s word is clearly a necessity, because how can one know what to act on without it? However, knowledge is not enough. We must indeed do what the Lord has commanded of us. If we think that knowing and not doing is enough, we are fooling ourselves. “But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does” (James 1:25). We should absolutely study the sermon on the mount. It is an incredible set of teaching. Much of what Jesus said had never been heard before. Please study the sermon on the mount. Don’t just study though, try to apply it each and every day of your life. I love you all!
