Matt. 6:19-24
What is the one thing that everyone has, that we are all losing, and we are all losing at the same rate? …. give up yet? …. The answer is time. Everyone has it. Everyone loses it. Everyone loses time at the same rate? Why does it seem that some people have more time than others? Everyone on earth has 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week, and 52 weeks in a year. This is a truth spoken by the Apostle John in 1 John 2:17, “The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.” We often use the excuse of, well I would but I don’t have enough time. I would come to Wednesday evening bible study, but I don’t have enough time. You have the same amount of time as the people sitting in the pew on Wednesday nights. The difference is they have chosen to use the time they have let differently than you. When healing the man born blind, Jesus said “We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.” (John 9:4) It is true that some people aren’t as busy as others, but no one is too busy to do the works of God. A large part of discipleship is giving up your wants and following Jesus (Luke 9:23-25). Not only is time the thing that we are all losing, there is no way to get it back. Once it is gone, it is gone forever. Therefore, time is the most valuable commodity that you have. It costs only what you are willing to spend it on. When you or I say, I don’t have time for ____________. Know that it is a lie. What we are really saying is, “I have made my priorities and ____________ does not fit into my list of most important priorities.” I pray that with the time you have left, you chose to work the works of God. I love you all!
