Search me, O God

“Search me, O God”
Psalm 139:23-24
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way” (Psalm 139:23-24). David’s song in Psalm 139 has always fascinated me. He ends the psalm by asking God to search him and know his heart. But doesn’t God already know those things? Isn’t He omniscient?
Absolutely! God already knows David’s heart. When David was anointed king over Israel after Saul’s rejection, the Lord told Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). So what should we learn from this psalm?
God desires an open and honest relationship with His people. David isn’t informing God of something unknown—he’s inviting God into the deepest parts of his heart. We should do the same. We should ask the all-knowing God to help us with our internal struggles, to expose hidden sins in our hearts that we may not even fully realize are there.
David's plea is for transformation. “See if there be any hurtful way in me”—that is, anything hurting our relationship with God—and “lead me in the everlasting way.” If there’s anything within us disrupting our walk with God, we should welcome His correction and be ready to cast it out.
Real spiritual growth happens when we stop hiding and start submitting—when we say, “Search me, O God,” and truly mean it.

I love you all!
