Shut Up

Jer. 20:9

Without context, the phrase, “Shut up” can be taken many ways. I’m not using it in the way we would scold a child speaking to a sibling. Right now we are “shut up” in our homes. Many unable to go to work or do anything. But that… is not what I’m talking about either. Right now I feel “shut up” like Jeremiah. I would encourage you to read Jeremiah 20:7-18, but for now we’re going to look at just verse 9. “But if I say, ‘I will not remember Him or speak anymore in His name,’ Then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire shut up in my bones; And I am weary of holding it in, and I cannot endure it.” Family we are on the brink of a revival and I can’t stay shut up anymore. Revival is defined as, “an improvement in the condition or strength of something.” I know we have forgotten the meaning of the word because the world uses often, and usually incorrectly. “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded” (James 4:8). We sing “Revive us again.” But I want you to know that takes action on your part. It takes action on my part. If I draw near to God, he will revive me. He will strengthen me. He will improve me. This is the message that has to be taken to the world. It can’t stay shut up in our bones. It can’t stay shut up in our hearts. We can’t hold this message in. We need the Lord to revive us. To revive His church. To revive the world. Is the word of the Lord shut up in you the way it was shut up in Jeremiah? If so, let it out. Remember the word of God is truth (John 17:17) and the only place we can find it is in the scriptures (2 Peter 1:20-21). Jesus promised to reveal all truth to the world in the first century (John 16:14) and indeed all truth has already been revealed (Jude 3; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Heb. 1:1-2). Don’t let it stay shut up. I love you all!

In His service,
Steven Hugley
