“Some Resolutions You Should Consider”
Acts 5:29

2018 is coming to a close, and as per tradition many people are making resolutions for 2019. I’m not going to give you the typical, study your Bible more, spend more time in prayer, or attend service more regularly. Those things are given, so just assume I’ve written a really long article about those. 1) ‘But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.”’ (Acts 5:29) God’s law is higher than man’s law or traditions (1 Peter 2:13-17). We are supposed to honor people around us, but above all, we are to obey God. 2) Put God’s desires higher than not just your own, but everyone else’s as well (Gal. 1:10). We tend to be in a “people pleasing” society, where we are afraid to offend, accuse, or in some way emotional harm someone else, but we never consider God. We don’t consider what offends Him. Put The Lord before everyone else’s wants and needs. 3) Make God the most important thing in you life. We say often say it, but rarely do it. When our friends, spouse, or children would rather do something else (go to the movies, out to eat, go to a family function, etc.) than go to worship, have a family devotional, teach the gospel, or stand up for the bible, we as humans cave. If that is you, God is not the most important thing in your life. Luke 14:26-27 makes it clear that following Jesus is more import than anything, even our on lives. 4) Lastly, stop being afraid to teach the Gospel! In 1 Thess. 2:1-2 Paul said, “we had the boldness in our God to speak to you the gospel of God amid much opposition.” Jesus spoke the truth, even though it cost Him His life. The early christians and apostles spoke the truth, even though it cost them their lives. We have gotten too soft, and too afraid of what people might think of us or the Lord’s church, so we have stopped teaching the Gospel. “Be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.” If you’re looking for resolutions, these 4 are a great place to start. I love you all!

In His service,
Steven Hugley
