Something to Think About

Rom. 1:16
Have you ever contemplated how beautiful Rom. 1:16 is and that vast number of teaching opportunities that can come from that single verse? “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Rom. 1:16 NASB). First, the power of God is now found in the Gospel. The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus the Christ (1 Cor. 15:1-3) was a one of a kind event (Heb. 9:27-28) that demonstrated/s the power of Almighty God. What separates Jesus from everyone else in the world is that he overcame death (1 Pet. 3:21, Heb. 10:11-12, Acts 2:29-32) and is now ruling over His kingdom (1 Cor. 15:25) in the heavenly places (Eph. 2:5-6). Salvation is only found by teaching people about the Gospel. Teaching Rom. 1:16 allows Christians to teach about the relationship between the Gospel and baptism (Rom. 6:3-6) and that the forgiveness of sin only comes through obeying that gospel (2 Thess. 1:8), the Lord adding you to the church (Acts 2:47), which is the Kingdom of Christ (Col. 1:13-14), and having the redemption of sins (Col. 1:14, Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16). Second, it allows the Christian to teach about the biblical definition of belief, or faith. That belief comes only from hearing the word of Christ (Rom. 10:17), that it is necessary to be pleasing to God (Heb. 11:6), that it is an act of obedience (John 3:36), and not merely just a mental ascent (James 2:26).  Lastly, it teaches the Christian about their obligation to teach the gospel. At one time, only Jews were made privy (Acts 1-9) but now God is declaring that all men everywhere are to repent (Acts 17:30) and the Lord’s church are the one’s tasked with taking it to them (Rom. 10:14-15). I implore you to spend more time with Rom. 1:16 and see all of the beautiful teaching opportunities that can come from it. I love you all!
