“Stop Thinking for God”
1 Sam. 15:22

One of the most common phrases when discussing spiritual matters with an individual is, “Well I don’t think God would ….” The unique thing about that phrase, is when you say that you “Don’t think God would _____” you’re actually thinking for God. The Lord has spoken and given us everything we need to know concerning what He thinks about every topic. “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the an of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17 emp. added), “His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence”(2 Peter 1:3 emp. added), and that true knowledge obviously comes through His word (John 17:17). A king of Israel once tried it his own way and didn’t take the council of the Lord. Go read all that Saul did in 1 Samuel 15. I want to point out a few things. The Lord gave Saul a direct command (1 Sam 15:2-3), Saul did most of it, but did not do everything the Lord commanded (15:7-9), Saul was convinced in his own mind he did what was right (15:13-14), Saul blamed others for his sin (15:15-16), Saul had to be told once again he had disobeyed God (15:17-19), Saul once again claimed he did right (20-21), and then we have the famous passage by Samuel, “Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams” (1 Sam. 15:22). It was only after this that Saul repented (15:24-26). The Lord doesn’t need you to think for Him. He has thought for Himself and recorded it for you to read and obey (2 Peter 1:19-21; James 1:22-25). It is right to obey what is written, than to claim “But I don’t think the Lord would ________.” I love you all!
