Talking about the Taboo

Gal. 5:19
In some of my weekly reading I came across some very concerning figures. In a recent Focus Press article author Jack Wilkie referenced some recent statistics about pornography addiction. I realize this is a topic that makes people uncomfortable, but is a scriptural topic to discuss and teach about all the same.  According to recent studies, 64% of “self-identified Christian men” admit to watching pornography at least once a month and as many as half of those in ministry positions confessed to struggling with watching it at some point. This is obviously something we can not remain silent about and can not pretend that it does not affect the Lord’s church. First we must admit where this sin, like all of sins, originates: The Heart. Mark 7:21 “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.” Many are of the opinion that watching pornography is not a sin but Galatians 5:19 makes it pretty clear that it is, “Now the deeds of the flesh are evident which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality…” Not talking about this topic with the future and current generations of the church is just going to make it worse. We we never expect people to understand the truths about baptism if we never talked about it, would we? We must speak the truth whether it is comfortable or not. Now people have more access to participate in this sin more than ever before and we can not be like an ostrich with our head stuck in the sand. We need to address it head on and make sure that our members and children are as protected from it as possible. I love you all.
