The Benefits of Doing Good

Galatians 6:10

I often talk about doing good to others, but I don’t often talk about what that looks like or what the benefits of it are. I would like to point out first and foremost that doing good to others does not include participating or endorsing error. The same apostle, Paul, who penned Gal. 6:10 also penned 1 Cor. 5:13 “Remove the wicked man from among yourselves.” He points out that we need to good to all men “and especially to those who are of the household of the faith” (Gal. 6:10b). Paul (1 Cor. 5:12&13) and Peter (1 Peter 4:12-17) had the same understanding that those who are Christians are going to be judged just as those who are infidels will be judged (Rom. 14:12). Part of doing especially good to those who are of the household of the faith, can be helping our brothers and sisters out spiritually knowing they will be under judgment. When I think of doing good to all men, I think back to Joseph. After being sold into slavery and separated from his family he was put into a position of authority. When his brothers came back to him in Gen. 45 he had an opportunity to do good to them or evil. He chose to do good although bad things had happened to him. Not only had bad things happened to him, but he was in a position to care for all of his people. In Gen. 45:5 “Now do not be grieved or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.” One benefit of him doing good to those who had done evil, was he was able to preserve their life, and thousands more. We can do the same by saving souls of men when we choose to do good and not evil. I love you all.
