“The Faith of Noah”
Gen. 6

I often imagine the response that Noah got from those people he spoke to. While the Genesis account of the flood doesn’t mention Noah preaching to others, in 2 Peter 2:5 Scripture records for us that God “… did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly.” Just in that verse we can learn that Noah did preach righteousness, only eight people were saved from the flood, the flood was a world wide phenomena, and Peter recognized this (through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit 2 Peter 1:20-21) as a literal event that happened, not a figurative one. From the Genesis 2 account of the creation of man, we know that God had not sent rain upon the ground and that water came from a mist that rose from the earth to water the surface of the ground. The bible does not mention rain again until Genesis 7 when the Lord instructs Noah what to do. Back to my original sentence, I imagine the way people treated this blameless, preacher of righteousness (Gen. 6:9). I imagine they might’ve thought that Noah was crazy. I imagine the conversation to go something like:

Noah: “Everyone you need to repent, because God is going to flood the Earth with water from the sky, called rain. So you need to get on this big Ark that God told me to make to protect you all.”

Everyone else: “Yeah right. Noah, you’re crazy!” *they go back to being completely evil* (Gen. 6:5-6).

I come to the same conclusion every time. People think you’re crazy, until the rain comes. Then, it’s usually too late. “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Cor. 1:18) Keep preaching the Gospel and living the example. Just like Noah, our obedience will be rewarded when the rains come. I love you all!
