“The God of Life”
Isaiah 49
Years ago, a preacher friend of mine encouraged a group of preachers to “Preach on Life.” He said, “In a world of so much death and destruction, people need to know that God is the God of Life.” I’ve carried that message with me ever since.
God values life. He values life so much that His Son gave His life so the rest of the world might live eternally (Romans 5:6–10). Sadly, we live in a world where many either do not understand or refuse to accept when life begins.
God declares that “children are a blessing from the Lord” (Psalm 127:3). Numerous scriptures show that God sees value in a child from the very beginning. In Isaiah 49:1, the prophet says, “The Lord called Me from the womb.” In Jeremiah 1:5, God says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.” See also Genesis 25:22; Psalm 139:13; 2 Kings 19:3; and Galatians 1:15.
Who was the first person outside of His family to recognize Jesus? According to Luke 1:41, it was John the Baptizer—while he was still in his mother’s womb. Some today try to get technical and dehumanize a baby by calling him or her a “fetus,” as if that somehow makes the child less human. But fetus is simply the Latin word “foetus” for “offspring” or “one who is born.”
In Exodus 21:22-25, God makes clear the value of unborn life. If a pregnant woman is struck during a struggle and the baby is harmed or malformed, the law requires, “eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.” God’s law recognized the unborn child as fully human, equal in value to anyone else.
Let’s be people who champion life. When someone announces they are pregnant, celebrate that moment and remind them that, “children are a blessing from the Lord.” Let’s stop treating children as hindrances to educational or professional ambitions and instead treat them as the blessings they truly are. Let’s also make sure we are raising them “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).

I love you all!
In His Service,
