The Heavy Millstone

“The Heavy Millstone”
Matt. 18:1-6

Katie and I visited Cades Cove when we went on vacation in May. While on vacation we got to see the pioneer’s way of life, which included milling their own grain. Obviously, it made me think about Jesus’ teaching concerning the “rank in the Kingdom.” When asked by His disciples “Who then is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Jesus told them they needed to be converted and become like a child; that they needed to humble themselves. There are many lessons to be taken from these few verses about being innocent, depending on our Heavenly Father, and much more. However, He goes on with a cautionary tale, “but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and be drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matt. 18:1-6). The world is coming after your children. Satan is coming after your children. Those who make the little ones stumble will receive their just reward. However, we need to ensure we are not the ones causing the stumbling. We need to make certain that our children, and the children around us, see godly Christians striving for eternal life with our Savior, Heavenly Father, and the Holy Spirit. We too can be deserving of a “millstone turned by a donkey” if we teach our children that anything or anyone is more important than Jesus and His church. Be humble, be converted, and be watchful of those who are helpless. I love you all!
