“The Political Invasion”
1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Has the church been too politically involved? It’s often said that the church has become “too political.” I respectfully disagree. While Jesus never spoke of tax rates, domestic or foreign policy, governmental social safety nets, etc., he did speak on matters of morality. What I have seen in the past several years is not the church becoming more political, but an invasion on maters of church doctrine by the political machine, namely morality. When gospel preachers speak on important social issues like abortion, homosexuality, fornication, sexual deviancy, the gender binary, etc., they are told they are being “too political.” These are not political issues, they are moral issues that are addressed in the Bible. This is more the realm of the gospel preacher than the politician. There are myriads of Scriptures stating that abortion should be not allowed and conception being the genesis of life: Gen. 25:22; Ex. 21:22; 2 Kings 19:3; Psalm 139:13 Jer. 1:5; Isaiah 49:1; Luke 1:41; Gal. 1:15. There are vast amounts of Scriptures, throughout various millennia, dealing with the different roles of gender, and all types of sexual deviancy: Gen. 15:1-5; Lev. 20:18; Rom. 1:26-27; 1 Cor. 6:9-11; Gal. 5:19-21; Jude 7. There has been a political invasion in the areas of morality. Unfortunately, due to today’s political tenor, it is necessary that I must say that Christianity does not promote hate of these groups either. “So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith” (Gal. 6:10, emp. added). Christians are to love their neighbors as themselves (Matt. 22:39), however, this does not allow the Christian to condone or celebrate sin (Rom. 1:28-32). We must teach God’s word, and that includes matters of morality. I love you all!

In His service,
Steven Hugley
