The Promise Maker and Promise Keeper

“The Promise Maker and Promise Keeper”
Romans 15:4

What brings you hope? We often use hope differently than the Bible definition. The word translated hope is ἐλπίς (elpis). Helps defines it as “properly, expectation of what is sure (certain).” The short definition I like to use is, “Blessed assurance.” I think about Jesus in John 14, “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.” However, what has increased my hope the most, is studying the Old Testament. As an immature Christian, I didn’t spend much time in the Old Testament. I figured that since it had been fulfilled (Matt. 5:17; Rom. 7:1-7), I didn’t really need to know it well. “For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” God kept his promises to Abraham, Sarah, Issac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Caleb, Gideon, Hannah, Samuel, David, and so many more we read about in the old testament. God has always been a promise maker and a promise keeper. He’s promised me that if I follow Him, I have a home prepared. That gives me hope. I love you all!
