The Pure Heart

Matt. 5:8

Last week I wrote about how to “Protect your Heart.” The need for a pure heart is one of the many things written about in the Beatitudes. Matt. 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” I think this blessing comes from what was written about in Jeremiah 17. I would encourage you to read the entire chapter, but I’d like to point out verses 9 & 10, “The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; Who can understand it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.” The heart/conscience can be marred. 1 Tim. 4:1-2, “But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron.” Our plea should be that of David’s in Psalm 51. After he committed what is referred to as “his great sin,” David penned these words, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners will be converted to You” (Psalm 51:10-13). I love you all!
