The Son of Man

“The Son of Man”
Daniel 7:13-14
The claim, “Jesus never called Himself God,” often made by Muslims and Jehovah’s Witnesses, stems from either ignorance or malice. If ignorance, let this equip you with truth. If malice, their response to Jesus’ words will reveal their intent.
Jesus’ favorite title for Himself was “Son of Man,” used over 80 times in the New Testament across the Gospels (e.g., Matthew 8:20, Mark 14:62, Luke 22:69, John 3:13). This wasn’t a casual phrase. It directly references Daniel 7:13-14, where a figure “like a son of man” comes with the clouds of heaven, approaches the “Ancient of Days,” and receives dominion, glory, and an everlasting kingdom. The Jews understood this as a divine, messianic figure. The Jewish Talmud, for instance, identifies the “Son of Man” in Daniel as the Messiah with divine attributes (Sanhedrin 98a). The “Ancient of Days” is God Himself, eternal and sovereign, and the Son of Man’s arrival on clouds underscores His divine origin, not mere humanity.
Daniel 7:14 further emphasizes the eternal nature of His kingdom: “His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.” Jesus’ use of “Son of Man” wasn’t a denial of divinity but a bold claim to be this eternal, divine figure.
Moreover, Jesus called God “My Father” in a way that provoked outrage. In John 8:54-59, when Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I am,” the Jews picked up stones to kill Him, understanding “I am” as a claim to God’s divine name (Exodus 3:14). They didn’t mistake Him for merely claiming to be God’s son in a human sense—they saw a claim to divinity itself.

Yes, Jesus is the Son of Man, fully human. Yes, He is the Son of God, fully divine. These titles don’t diminish His deity but proclaim it. When anti-Christs deny this, point them to Daniel 7 and John 8. The truth is clear: Jesus claimed to be God, and the Jews’ reaction proves they understood Him perfectly.

I love you all!
