The Watering Down of the Gospel

“The Watering Down of the Gospel”
Matt. 11:28-30

Submitting obediently to the Father through the only lamb of God is the greatest decision anyone can ever make. Furthermore, it is the only way for Jesus to become the author of your salvation (Heb. 5:9). Unfortunately, many have watered down the power of the gospel, but preaching a false theology of “God wants you just the way you are” and teaching individuals they never need to change. This is patently false. God expects us to conform our behavior to His standard (Rom. 12:1-2; Matt. 7:21-23). Jesus preached the gospel of self-denial (Matt. 16:24-27; 10:34-39) and the apostles told us persecution would be involved (2 Tim. 3:12). If those facts are true, and they are, how can one understand Jesus’ message of peace? “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matt. 11:28-29). Notice that it is still the gospel of self denial, however we find rest for our souls. We can have peace that surpasses all comprehension (Phil. 4:7). We no longer have to get bogged down in our tribulation and the daily vicissitudes we might face because our citizenship is in heaven, and we are looking toward a better reward than anything this life has to offer (Phil. 3:18-20). Don’t water down the gospel, rather preach about the reward of living a faithful life (Heb. 12:1-2). I love you all!
