They May Think You're Crazy!

Acts 26:24

Some of the examples we read about in the book of Acts seem incredible. There are a few verses that stick out to me as the hardest goals to achieve. In Acts 5, the Apostles had been imprisoned because of the jealously of the Sadducees, and the angel of the Lord freed them and they went back to the temple and began preaching again. The high priest brought them before the Council and gave them a charge. I content that the charge given to them should be the goal of all christians, “We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us” (Acts 5:28). We must fill whatever city we are living in the with the teaching of the New Testament plan of salvation. Later in Thessalonica, Paul is given a similar charge by the Jews of Thessalonica, “These men who have upset the world have come here also” (Acts 17:6). Here it is said of Paul and Silas had upset the world. People were not happy about what the new law had to say. Paul tells Timothy that it would continue to be that way (2 Tim. 4:1-5). Even though it may upset the world, or fill an entire city with a teaching, we have to do it. People will think you are crazy. When Paul was giving a simple defense of the Gospel plan of salvation, he was told, “Paul, you are out of your mind! Your great learning is driving you mad” (Acts 26:24). So what if people think obeying the gospel is crazy. I am not here to please them. “For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ” (Gal. 1:10). Fill the city with your teaching or upset the whole world if you dare. If they call you crazy, good! You’re in good company. Remember who we are seeking to please. I love you all!

In His service,
Steven Hugley
