What Does it Mean to be Still?

“What Does it Mean to Be Still”
Psalm 46:10-11

In many translations of the Bible, Psalm 46:10 starts by saying “Be Still.” I like the NASB translation that says, “‘Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’ The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold.” In context the psalmist is encouraging the sons of Israel to not rebel against God but to trust in Him and lean on him for their strength. To stop striving does not mean that we shouldn’t have goals. Rather, we need to work for the Lord in what we do. The Lord desires all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth (1 Tim. 2:3-6). He wants you to teach the world around you about Christ (Matt. 28:18-20). Whatever you are doing in your life, do it for the Lord. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Prov. 3:5-6). Whatever you are doing, the Lord needs to be in the plan. I love you all!
