“What if they Won’t Listen”
Matt. 10:34-39

Are you ever afraid to teach the Truth to someone? I know have been. Sometimes we make excuses like, “They won’t listen anyway,” or “They were raised in the ________ religion, there’s no way they’ll listen.” I know when teaching friends I’ve often thought, “What if they don’t want to be my friend anymore.” In times like these, we must remember the parable of the sower (Matt 13 & Luke 8:4ff). It was not the sowers job to determine whether the soil would accept the seed and germinate. It was the sowers job to plant the seed, which is the word of God. We must be careful not to love this present world, more than we love obeying the commandments of Jesus. “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it” (Matt. 10:37-39).  It’s possible that they won’t listen. The scribes and pharisees regularly rejected Jesus (John 5:16), the Sanhedrin council stoned Stephen to death (Acts 7), and Paul was run out of Ephesus (Acts 19). But in every situation, our first century brethren kept teaching. This is are charge. We must always preach the word (2 Tim. 4:1-2) and we must preach to everyone (Matt. 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16). Remember, Jesus said that he was bringing a sword (Matt. 10:34), and that sword is the word of God (Heb. 4:12). I love you all!
