When Is It Time to Shake the Dust Off?

“When Is It Time to Shake the Dust Off?”
Matt. 10:14

Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 10:14 and Mark 6:11 that if a town or house rejected them, they were to "shake the dust off" their feet as a testimony against them. This wasn’t just a symbolic gesture—it was a warning. When people willfully reject the truth, there comes a time to move on. This aligns with Matthew 7:6, where Jesus warned against casting pearls before swine. If someone refuses to see the value of the Gospel, continuing to force it on them only invites hostility and mockery.
We see this principle in action in Acts 13:51, when Paul and Barnabas shook the dust off their feet against those who rejected the Word in Antioch. They didn’t waste time in fruitless arguments but continued preaching where hearts were open. However, this doesn’t mean we give up at the first sign of resistance. Paul reasoned in Ephesus for two years (Acts 19:8-10), but when opposition turned to violence and riot, he left. The time to shake the dust off is when rejection becomes blatant hostility, and continuing to preach would be like throwing pearls to swine. Our job is to plant the seed, but if the soil refuses to receive it, we move on—always praying that hearts may soften in the future.
I love you all!
