When Satan Entered Judas

“When Satan Entered Judas”
Luke 22:3

In the gospel accounts, it is recorded when Judas made up his mind to betray the Son of God. Much has been made of the phrase, “And Satan entered in Judas” (Luke 22:3). John records it by saying, “After the morsel, Satan then entered into him” (John 13:27). It should be noted that  both of the recordings actually happened at different times. Luke records that satan entered Judas before he met with the chief priests and officers concerning how he would betray Jesus, they then prepared and at the passover meal and the Lord instituted the Lord’s supper. It is after this supper and the washing of the disciples feet the John records that “Satan then entered into him.” Rather than being at odds, these two accounts are recording two desperate decisions. Both decisions were to do plot the murder, which is a work of satan. No where in the Scriptures does it indicate that Judas’s free will was removed from him. Rather he allowed satan to enter him by his decision making. When Peter is recounting this, he indicates that it was Judas’s decision making that led to his demise: “Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness” (Acts 1:16-19). Did Judas fulfill scripture? Yes (Acts 1:16). But the prophecy did not indicate that Judas individually would do the deed, rather a friend of the Christ (Psalm 41:9). The fact is that there is no temptation that can overtake our freewill (1 Cor. 10:13). It wasn’t true for Judas, and it’s not true for us. I love you all!
