“Who Do You Fear?”
Numbers 13-14

There is an untold amount of wisdom that we can glean from the Old Testament (Rom. 15:4). One of the questions that it can help us answer is, who do we fear? Continuously, God gave explicit instructions to His chosen people, yet they allowed the fear of the people to overcome them. After giving them a promised people, a promised land, rescuing them from famine, God promised to bring them back to the land of their Fathers Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. Yet, they feared the people. In Numbers 12-14 we read about the great rebel against God. He ordered Moses to send the 12 spies into the promised land to give a report. Only two of those spies believed that God had the power to do what He had promised them. Even though they knew He was the creator of the world and deliverer from the hands of pharaoh, they still didn’t act on what they knew. Only two of the twelve had the proper response. Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, of those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; and they spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, ‘The land which we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. If the Lord is pleased with us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us — a land which flows with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the Lord; and do not fear the people of the land, for they will be our prey. Their protection has been removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.’ But all the congregation said to stone them with stones.” (Num. 14:6-10a). The Lord has commanded us to “Go” and “Preach the Gospel.” Who do you fear? The Lord or the people (Gal. 1:10). I love you all!
