“Why Do We Emphasize Bible Study?”
2 Tim. 3:16-17

When I talk to friends and fellow brethren about our congregation, I often hear phrases like, “Y’all spend a lot of time studying the Bible.” When you think about the various programs and functions of our congregation, they almost always centered around the study of the Bible. I wanted to write several brief reasons why that is the case. First, we are the church of Christ. Meaning, we are those who have been called out of the world, who belong to Jesus the Christ. This being the case, heavy emphasis on Bible study should be understood, because Jesus is the Word (John 1:1-3; 14). God’s word is what equips us to teach, correct, and to train in righteousness (2 Tim. 3:16-17). The Bible is all that we need to understand everything pertaining to life and Godliness (2 Peter 1:3). It is not just the opinion of the writers of the Holy Scriptures, it is from the mouth of God (2 Peter 1:19-21). It is through intimate knowledge of the Scriptures that we have a hope, or blessed assurance, of eternal life with the Lord (Rom. 15:4). I’m sure there are many more reasons we can and should consider, but this is a concise list of some of my favorites. I love you all!
