“Why Right Now?”
    
    Just a couple of weeks ago, someone was asking me. “Steven, why did you baptize those people right then?” For background purposes I’ll add that our past few conversions have not been people “responding to the invitation.” Rather, a couple were the result of personal bible study and another was a person raised in the church who saw the need during the week. But back to the question… Why did we not just wait until Sunday? I would encourage you, before you continue reading this post, grab a bible and read the following sections of Scripture: Acts 2:38-41; Acts 8:25-39; Acts 10:44-48; Acts 16:11-15; Acts 16:25-33; Acts 19:1-5; Acts 22:3-16. Did you read all of them? I pray you did. Did you read about someone waiting until a “baptism Sunday”? What about someone who waited until the next week when they would have time to “prepare the baptistry"? What about someone who was saved “by their belief” and then baptized years later? We practice baptism “in the name” (by the authority) of Jesus the Christ. We obey what He commanded. We baptize how He commanded it. We baptize how those inspired men of God, baptized people. Immediately. In the case of the Philippian jailer, it was “about midnight” when he took them (Paul and Silas) “that very hour of the night and washed their wounds, and immediately he [the jailer] was baptized, he and all his household.” “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father” (Col. 3:17). Why right now? Because that’s what the authority says. I love you all!
