Winning the Battle, but Losing the War

Exodus 20

There is much debate today over the displaying of the “10 Commandments” in public forums. Many have fought hard for their sincerely held religious beliefs that those should be displayed and have won those fights, but they have lost the war. Many of these people waging the battles are self professed “christians” but are fighting for something written to Israel. Why? If you look throughout the New Testament the all but ONE of the ten commandments is repeated: 1) Matt. 4:10 2) Eph. 5:5 & 1 John 5:21 3) Matt. 5:33-37 4) 5) Matt. 15:4-9 6) Matt. 5:21 7) Matt. 5:27 8) Matt. 19:18 9) Matt. 19:18 10) Luke 12:15 (There are several, several more but for the interest of time this is an abbreviated version.) You notice which one is absent? #4 Remember the Sabbath day and keep it Holy. There are several examples of our first century brethren using the sabbath to go to the temple and teach, Acts 17:1&2; 18:4, but not explicit command for someone living after the cross of Jesus to remember the sabbath (which is Saturday, Exodus 20:8-11). Many erroneously claim that the “Christian Sabbath” is now Sunday but there is absolutely no scripture to support such a claim. Sunday is the day that the first century Christians clearly used to worship (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 16:1&2) but there is no where in scripture that says that the Sabbath moved from Saturday to Sunday. Fighting to keep these 10 commandments is moot to Christians because Jesus came to fulfill the law and to replace it with the New Law (or Testament) Rom. 7:1-7, Gal. 3:23-29, Heb. 9:15-22. Not only is it moot for Christians to fight for the Old Law, it is dangerous. Paul tells the church at Galatia that those who were trying to be justified by the Old Law were clearly in error and they had fallen from grace (Gal. 5:1-4). It is a great thing if people want to fight for religious freedom, but do not lose the war because of a battle that does not matter. I love you all!
